Work, a home and companionship for homeless people ready to make a fresh start
An Emmaus Community welcomes people who are ready for a fresh start in life, gives them a roof over their heads, food to eat, and a weekly allowance. The rules are that the residents, or 'Companions', must come off benefits, except housing benefit, and start work of various kinds in the Community's social enterprise business - typically refurbishing furniture, helping to run a shop, and associated tasks. For people who have faced serious setbacks in life - illness, bereavement, broken relationships, hardship, homelessness - Emmaus is about a new life, new friends, and new self confidence.
